What happened to oil spill post-Milenyo?
October 1, 2006IN the aftermath of the super typhoon Milenyo (I don’t understand why we can’t use the international code names for weather disturbances), I had been anticipating some news about what may have happened to Guimaras and the oil spill. But alas, there has been no writeup of any sort about this, neither in local nor Metro Manila-based newspapers.
I remember not too long ago, a PAG-ASA official warned that the oil spill should be cleaned up by November before any typhoon hits the area and spread the slick farther down south to more marine resource-rich areas like Mindanao.
We hope our usual hardworking press colleagues down in Iloilo remember to ask the Coast Guard or Presidential Adviser Lito Coscolluela about this (in case the former’s officials are no longer speaking up).
And hey, by the way, another typhoon has been forecast to directly hit the Visayas. Any preparations over there in Guimaras for this? Just asking…
