ONLY 13 OF THE 16 SHORT FILMS ON THE environmental disaster in Guimaras Island will be shown tonight on ABC 5’s current affairs program “Shorts” at 10:30 p.m.

Filmmaker Khavn dela Cruz’s work recently received an “X” rating from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), while Paolo Villaluna and Emman dela Cruz failed to submit copies of their films on the deadline set by the network, according to the program’s executive producer Bing Dimaano.

The episode, titled “Guimaras: Short Films from the Oil Spill,” has originally been scheduled to air last week but was postponed “to give the filmmakers more time to finish their work and to stretch the episode to two hours,” said Dimaano.

Airing tonight are four-minute versions of the films.

In September, independent filmmakers Milo Paz, Emman dela Cruz, Jeck Cogama, Paolo Villaluna, Wilfred Galila, Kidlat Tahimik, Kidlat De Guia, JP Carpio, Seymour Sanchez, Raya Martin, Roxlee, Ann Shy, Khavn dela Cruz, Victor Villanueva, Drei Boquieren and Oscar Nava flew to Guimaras Island to shoot a 10-minute short film each on the oil spill in Western Visayas.

The project, a co-production of ABC 5 and the Independent Filmmakers Cooperative of the Philippines (IFC), aims to create awareness among the general public on the effects of the oil spill. The full 10-minute versions of the short films will be shown from Oct. 13 to 15 at the Robinsons Galleria in Quezon City.
