WITH their beaches and island resorts damaged by the oil spill, Guimaras Gov. JC Rahman Nava said Wednesday that the Provincial Government is now positioning to promote the island-province as the next sports adventure and agri-tourism capital of Western Visayas.

In a joint Regional Peace and Order Council and City Peace and Order Council meeting held at the Taberna Hall of Casino Filipino Hotel in Bacolod, Nava said they don’t have any choice but to shift their tourism promotion from eco-tourism to sports adventure and agri-tourism.

“We’re doing it fast. We need to double-time in our promotion as part of our recovery efforts after the oil spill that almost ruined the fishing livelihood of our people,” Nava told reporters.

He said Guimaras could be a potential place for sports adventure like rapelling, mountain climbing, and biking among others.

“We also have our vast mango plantation suited for our agri-tourism promotion,” he added.
