ILOILO City – THE Chairman of the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) and Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Avelino J. Cruz Jr. has announced that the level of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in Guimaras is safe.

The NDCC advised the Regional Coordinating Council (RDCC), Petron and the local government units (LGUs) to help in the cleaning of oil spill debris on affected communities so as to facilitate the immediate return of evacuees to their homes.

According to the DOH, once all the debris are cleared, a clearing H2S test shall be done by DENR to finally check and verify the levels of H2S. If the said levels are found to be within acceptable safe standards, then complete return of evacuees shall be recommended by the NDCC.

The hauling of debris from Brgy. Tando is being prioritized to enable residents to return to their homes and pave the way for the area to be declared “clean.”
