Helping hands…SM Foundation reaches out to Guimaras

October 22, 2006

OVER the years, SM Foundation has been touching the lives of thousands of Filipinos through various programs.

One of these is a medical mission last September 29 at Barangay San Antonio, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. Free medicines to the residents and neighboring villages were given out.

Village chief Danilo Tagulalap confirmed that around 800 households were affected by the MT Solar 1 oil spill because they lost their source of livelihood, which is fishing.

“We thank SM Foundation for choosing our village as one of the recipients among the 11 that were affected. Actually, this is the second time that our village has benefited from this kind of project,” he said.

“This medical mission was made in good timing, “he added.

Cynthia Timbrella, 47 years old, of Sitio Pandan, cried when she received multivitamins and medicines for her kids. “Maayo kay naghatag kamo bulong diri (It’s good that you gave out medicines here),” she said.

She added that she has so many children to feed.

There were added fun and surprises when Santa Bob of SM Foundation and the University of the Philippines in the Visayas (UPV) student volunteers initiated parlor games, which kids enjoyed. Stuff toys were given out to the winners.

The foundation also gave out pail and clothes to the families.

SM Foundation executive director Connie Angeles and Christie Angeles, project director for Outreach Programs, led the team with Shiela Ubales, SM Project coordinator, Bob Navida, project manager, and SM publicity man Troy Camarista who took time during the Guimaras mission.
